Welcome from SLACIP
It is with pleasure that I invite you to participate in the XVI Latin American Congress of Pediatric Intensive Care, held in Houston, Texas between November 7 and 10, 2019.
This Congress, traditionally organized by the Latin American Society of Pediatric Intensive Care (SLACIP), has been held without interruption since 1995 in different countries of our continent, and calls for models in critical care throughout Latin America.
On this occasion, our hosts will be the members of the SLACIP Diaspora Chapter led by Dr. Renán Orellana. This group of Latin American colleagues working in other parts of the world has as its main objective to facilitate initiatives and projects that help improve the quality of care that critically ill children receive in Latin America.
With this vision and with the support of the Department of Pediatrics of the Baylor College of Medicine, the traditional SLACIP Congress is held simultaneously with the 26th United States Pediatric Critical Care Colloquium within the framework of the "Pediatric Critical Care Summit of the Americas. "
The objective of this event is to approach advances in the specialty from a multidisciplinary point of view, including an integral look at the new challenges that we face in daily practice: quality of life as a desired outcome of the PICU instead of mortality, participation of the family in care, transition of care for techno-dependent children, needs for collaborative research, continuing education of the health team, etc.
The Congress also offers the possibility of sharing experiences through participation in practical workshops with simulation and tours to the intensive care units of Texas Children's Hospital.
Without a doubt, we will have a program with a high academic level. We hope that all of you can join us.
