Bio

Dr. Susan M. Goobie, MD, FRCPC is Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Harvard Medical School and a Senior Associate with the Dept. of Anesthesiology, Critical Care & Pain Medicine, Boston Children's Hospital.

At Boston Children’s Hospital, Dr. Goobie is co-chair of Perioperative Research and Chair of the Main OR IRB  committee, past director of the BCH Pharmacokinetics Laboratory. She has been on staff at BCH for 25 years. She has an interest in blood conservation and blood transfuion and improving outcomes for all pedatric pateints at risk for anemia and blood loss. She is working with a multidusciplinary team at BCH to improve the safety and outcomes of children who bleed or need blood.

Dr. Goobie’s current editorial positions include Executive Editor for Pediatric Anesthesia, Associate Editor for British Journal of Anesthesia, Interim Editor-in-Chief for BJA Open.

Dr. Goobie holds leadership roles on many national and international scientific research committees. She is Chair of the American Society os Anesthesiology Patient Blood Management committee, Chair of the Canadian Pediatric Anesthesia Society Research Committee, and founder and Chair of the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia PBM committe.  She is a collaborator for the World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists (WFSA) Perioperative Patient Blood Management working group.

Dr. Goobie has published over 150 articles in the field and lectures nationally and internationally.

She is from Newfoundland, Canada and lives in Boston, MA, USA. Together with her husband, she has 3 children and a golden retriever.
