Bio

Thorsten Haas, MD is an anesthesiologist who has specialized in pediatric anesthesia. Dr. Haas grew up in Wiesbaden, Germany and graduated from the Johannes Gutenberg University Medical School in Mainz. He underwent postgraduate training in anesthesiology. As a junior attending working in the University of Innsbruck, Austria, he started his research in perioperative bleeding management. Following his specialization in pediatric anesthesia, he spent 10 years as Professor of anesthesiology at the Children’s University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. From there he was recruited to the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, where he is currently working as the Director of Patient Blood Management and professor of anesthesiology.

The focus of his research is on viscoelastic coagulation testing, perioperative coagulation management, the targeted use of purified coagulation factors, and Patient Blood Management.

Dr. Haas is a member of the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA) Subgroup for Perioperative Coagulation Management, of the Transfusion-Anemia eXpert Initiative - Control/Avoidance of Bleeding - TAXI-CAB, a Member of the Scientific Committee for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management, Haemostasis and Thrombosis (NATA), and a member of the External Steering Committee for Patient Blood Management Implementation Guidance to Improve the Global Blood Health of the World Health Organization (WHO).
