Dr. Owens received her BS in Biological Engineering and Biology at Cornell University, followed by an MD-PhD in the UCLA-Caltech Medical Scientist Training Program. She earned her PhD at Caltech in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics in the lab of Dr. Pamela Bjorkman, studying protein dynamics involved in Huntington Disease. These studies included research on protein crystallization on the International Space Station. She completed a residency in anesthesiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology at Boston Children's Hospital, where she remained a member of the staff.
