Principles of Pediatric Anesthesia and Critical Care
May 1 - 4, 2025

Welcome

Welcome to the 2025 Principles of Pediatric Anesthesia and Critical Care Conference

We have an exciting new partnership and new curriculum!

This year the conference will be hosted jointly by the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and accredited by Harvard Medical School.

We have restructured our curriculum such that all in-person attendees will benefit from a hands-on, workshop-heavy curriculum. Pediatric POCUS and Pediatric Regional workshops are now included in the program with an entire afternoon dedicated to each. Case-based learning table discussions are also included this year, and in-person attendees will rotate through all the topics offered. To accommodate for this new, interactive curriculum, several hours of on-demand lectures, recorded by our expert faculty from Boston Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, will be available.

We are excited and honored to host Dr. Clyde Matava as this year’s keynote speaker. Dr. Matava is a Staff Anesthesiologist at SickKids Hospital and an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. He serves as the Associate Chief of Perioperative Services for Bioinformatics and leads as Director of Anesthesia Informatics, Innovation, and Technology in the Department of Anesthesia at SickKids. His research focuses on integrating advanced technologies like big data, clinical informatics, and machine learning to enhance and optimize patient care. You will all have a chance to meet with Dr. Matava during our case-based learning sessions to discuss uses of AI in airway management.

This new partnership means amazing new faculty who are committed to sharing their different perspectives and clinical pearls with you. We are fortunate to have Drs. Elaina Lin and Walid Alrayashi, who are enthusiastic, forward-thinking leaders in POCUS and Pediatric Regional anesthesia.

Dr. Lin, who will lead the POCUS workshop, is an attending pediatric anesthesiologist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. She is Director of perioperative ultrasound and leads educational workshops and clinical protocols for bedside ultrasound. You will see we have a new line-up of experienced physicians from many different pediatric subspecialties committed to teaching you this year.

Dr. Alrayashi, who will lead the Regional Anesthesia workshop, is an Associate in Perioperative Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, and Director of Regional Anesthesiology. He has a special interest in the use of ultrasound in the perioperative care of pediatric and young adult patients. He founded the home analgesia program at Boston Children’s Hospital, the only of its kind in the northeastern United States. This includes the use of ultrasound for the therapeutic treatment of acute pain as well as the diagnosis for acute pathologies. He has published on clinical outcomes in various regional anesthesia outcomes and reported on the use of ultrasound in clinical care.

We will also host an interactive Poster Session during the Friday night reception at The View Boston, which offers a 360-degree view of the city of Boston at the top of the Prudential Center. We encourage you to share your research projects and clinical experiences.

Looking forward to seeing you in May!
