PEDIATRIC PATIENT BLOOD MANAGEMENT MASTERCLASS

This interactive and hands-on masterclass/workshop is designed to cover current evidence-based best practice guidelines for pediatric patient blood management (PBM) including multimodal strategies to manage the bleeding neonate, infant, child and adolescent. Management of anemia, benefits and risks of blood component transfusion, indications for coagulation factor concentrates, guidelines to treat massive hemorrhage, utility of point of care testing, and review of basic blood banking for the pediatric anesthesiologist will be covered. This Pediatric PBM masterclass, has been revised and expanded from 2023 first in-person masterclass offered at the PPACC course. Contemporary PBM and optimal blood use (OBU) strategies and practical case scenarios will be discussed with international experts in the field. Hands-on stations will demonstrate useful blood management strategies and monitoring equipment including Viscoelastic testing (for beginners and advanced practitioners). Content is continually being updated and improved from previous year providing new evidence-based scientific strategies to improve clinical practice pertaining to PBM, OBU, anemia, bleeding and hemostatic management. Leaders or potential future leaders in the field of pediatric PBM will be invited to apply as participants in this one day masterclass/workshop presented by national and international experts in pediatric PBM.
