EDUCATION MISSION STATEMENT
The Online Intensive Review of Pediatric Anesthesia is designed for the anesthesiologist seeking a comprehensive review of Pediatric Anesthesiology. The course will provide a broad synopsis of contemporary Pediatric Anesthesiology that will reinforce the LEARNER’s core knowledge and enhance HIS/HER clinical skills.

STATEMENT OF NEED
This course is designed to not only reinforce the underpinnings for the learner’s current practice, but also to review key concepts for important conditions that may be less common in the individual’s practice.

For the practicing pediatric anesthesiologist, this course will not only review and solidify core concepts, but will also provide an update on the most recent changes and best practices for common pediatric perioperative care.

TARGET AUDIENCE
The Intensive Review of Pediatric Anesthesia is designed for the anesthesiologist seeking a comprehensive review of Pediatric Anesthesiology.

MEDIUM OR COMBINATION OF MEDIA USED 
The medium for this activity is the Internet, specifically the members' section of www.pedsanesthesia.org. These lectures were digitally recorded specifically for this activity. High quality video, audio and PowerPoint files are included. A printed syllabus will be mailed to registrants who participate in the entire activity.

SCOPE & TYPES OF ACTIVITIES
This online course offers an in-depth review of current concepts in pediatric anesthesiology. Lectures will combine basic science, core physiologic and pharmacologic principles, and clinically applicable concepts. Course participants will receive an extensive overview of important topics and disciplines in pediatric anesthesiology including: Cardiac Anesthesia; Neonatal Anesthesia; Pediatric Pain; Pediatric ENT; Pediatric Orthopedics and Neurosurgery; Pediatric Preoperative Assessment; and Complications of Pediatric Anesthesia.

ACGME Core Competencies
The vast majority of these lectures address the ACGME’s Core Competencies of MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE and PATIENT CARE.

Practice-based learning is addressed in the lecture on “Complications of Pediatric Anesthesia”.  SYSTEMS-BASED PRACTICE is incorporated into the lectures on “Pediatric Anesthesia Outside of the OR” and “Pediatric and Neonatal Advanced Life Support”.

Effective professional COMMUNICATION is addressed most specifically in the lectures on “Pediatric Pain Medicine” and “Pre-Operative Assessment and Optimization”, and is also incorporated into many of the other lectures as well. And finally, registrants for this course demonstrate their own PROFESSIONALISM by their commitment to their patients’ well-being and their own ongoing professional development.

ACCREDITATION & DESIGNATION
The Society for Pediatric Anesthesia is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Society for Pediatric Anesthesia designates this enduring material activity for a maximum of 19 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
