Rekha Chandrabose, MD, is an Associate Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of California San Diego. She received her BA in Women’s Studies and her MD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After finishing her residency at UCSD, she joined the faculty in 2011 as a general and regional anesthesiologist. She teaches and provides clinical anesthesia at both the VA Medical Center in La Jolla as well as at UCSD. Dr. Chandrabose serves as faculty mentor to several residents.
In 2014, she founded Women in Anesthesiology, a national non-profit organization and served as its President for 4 years. Her service continues as an Advisory Board Member of WIA. Her research is focused on the intersection of gender equity and medicine. Dr. Chandrabose regularly speaks at the American Society of Anesthesiologists and at institutional Grand Rounds on issues related to equity.
In 2021, Dr. Chandrabose was appointed Vice Chair for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for her Department as well as becoming a Fellow of the Anti-Racist Pedagogy Learning Institute at UCSD. In this role, she is developing a multi-year program for residents to better understand the social determinants of health.
In her free time, she enjoys surfing, reading, and spending time with her family.
