CSA 2023 Annual Meeting
April 27 - 30, 2023

Welcome

 Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the California Society of Anesthesiologists (CSA) Educational Programs Division, we are excited to invite you to join us at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Mission Bay, San Diego.

As we enter 2023 and welcome our Diamond Jubilee anniversary of 75 years, our theme this year will be CSA Connect: the art and science of meetings.

The program includes a pre-program POCUS and Regional Workshop on Thursday afternoon. The ultrasound applications will be following the validated FORESIGHT educational curriculum that teaches a wide range of scans that includes point of care cardiac exams, pulmonary ultrasound, and gastric ultrasound. Attendees will also get education and hands-on experience with many ultrasound guided regional anesthesia scans for upper and lower extremities, trunk blocks and PECS, serratus and erector spinae plane blocks. Following each station attendees will be provided review, hands-on practicum and reporting opportunities and feedback. These workshops are limited in size, so please sign up early if you are interested.

The plenary sessions focus on updates in specialty areas and feature a combination of high-yield lectures, panel discussions, problem-based learning discussions and question/answer components. As you’ll see in the schedule, we have a broad range of topic areas covering peri-anesthesia care.

Topics include updates on Brain Health Initiative and the ASA Difficult Airway Algorithm. Ambulatory care, bariatrics, pediatrics, dental anesthesia and pain management will be also covered. Problem-based learning discussions will be held on neuroanesthesia, pediatrics, critical care and bariatrics. Discussions on gender affirming care, ethics and economics of anesthesiology will be presented. Practice management topics will include impact of private equity on healthcare.

A few of our key highlights include welcoming our California Surgeon General Diana Ramos MD to discuss maternal morbidity and mortality in California and the role of anesthesiologists and Linda Mason MD as our featured Leffingwell speaker to talk about leadership.

We are including abstracts as part of our general session, in both poster and oral presentation formats. Attendance at these abstracts includes CME credit. This will be an excellent opportunity to share recent research with your fellow colleagues and peers!

New this year we will present the first ever President’s Impact Awards, which are member-to-member awards  recognizong Educator of the Year, Physician Advocate of the Year, Clinical Innovator of the Year, Rising Star (early career) and In-Training Member of the Year. We will feature these awards during our welcome reception, which will also highlight our 75th anniversary.  We are also working on some family-friendly events during this reception.

Alongside the main educational track we will have special sessions for in-training and early career physicians on practice management, financial education, and career path options.

The 2023 CSA Annual Meeting is set to be both an excellent educational experience for anesthesiologists, and an opportunity to network with peers in our scientific community. We look forward to seeing you in San Diego.
